The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has removed three Russian universities that were previously recognized for allowing Sri Lankan students to pursue a medical degree.
There is a risk that Sri Lanka will lose all medical scholarships due this year and thereafter due to the removal of all Russian universities that offer full scholarships from the list of foreign medical colleges that have been approved at the Sri Lanka Medical Council meeting held on June 26, 2020. Currently, the only Russian Medical University approved by the Medical Council does not offer full medical scholarships to Sri Lanka.
Lumumba, now known as People’s Friendship University of Russia, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and Tver State Medical University have been removed from the list.
The Russian government has awarded 40 full scholarships to Sri Lanka this year, including five full scholarships in medicine.
