t is reported that Justice Minister Ali Sabri was adamant that state-owned companies could not be allowed to be audited despite pressure from the public and other ministers.
It has been revealed that the Minister was in such a strong position in the Committee of Ministers appointed by Mahinda Rajapaksa to reconsider the 20th Amendment.
However, as now recommended by the committee, the recommendations made by them without the consensus have not been reconsidered by the Cabinet.
Accordingly, there is an opportunity to bring some amendments to the draft that has been gazetted at the committee stage. Political analysts say that although the President has been assured of this, he cannot guarantee what will happen as he is not represented in the Parliamentary Committee.
